On January 22-23, a meeting was held at the Wellcome Centre (UG Library) to launch a new project: “Green and Resilient Future Industrial Training” (GREENFIT), in partnership with the UG Centre for Sustainable Development.

GREENFIT is an international project funded under the ERASMUS+ program, which aims to support the green transformation of the industrial sector. The project focuses on developing practical skills among employees in the area of sustainable development and responsible environmental practices.

The project kick-off was attended by representatives of the universities and institutions participating in the project consortium. The guests were welcomed by Dr. Ewa Szymczak, Prof. UG, Vice-Rector for Education, Dr. hab. Sylwia Mrozowska, Prof. UG, Director of the Centre for Sustainable Development at UG, Dr. Barbara Kijewska, Prof. UG, project manager on behalf of UG, and Prof. Semih Akcomak, project leader from the Middle East Technical University in Ankara.

The main purpose of the meeting was to introduce the partners within the consortium and discuss the project indicators within the five work packages (WP): WP1 – Project management; WP2 – Sustainable development framework – definition and assessment; WP3 – Design and development of innovative training modules on sustainable development; WP4 – Implementation of training on sustainable development and teaching based on MOOC courses; and WP5 – Dissemination, sustainable development, and use of results.

The project will create a multilingual e-learning platform and training modules, train 12 experts, and involve 100 employees from 50 companies in pilot projects. Through classroom training, industry collaboration, and promotional activities, GREENFIT will support the implementation of green solutions in business and education in four countries: Poland, Turkey, Italy, and Sweden.

During the meeting, the partners also discussed the activity plan for the coming year and detailed activities for the coming months, including the preparation of a risk plan, literature review, analyses, and questionnaires.

The GREENFIT consortium consists of five partners. The project leader is the Middle East Technical University, which is responsible for coordination and research work carried out mainly by METU-TEKPOL, a unit dealing with science and technology policy, ecological transformation analysis, training design, and evaluation. The Ankara Chamber of Industry contributes its experience in implementing vocational training programs and cooperating with enterprises, ensuring that the project’s activities are linked to the needs of industry, stakeholder involvement, and the transfer of results. The University of Gdańsk supports the project with its research facilities in the field of sustainable development, experience in international projects, and activities to disseminate and ensure the sustainability of results, carried out, among others, by the Centre for Sustainable Development. The Sustainability Collaborative contributes expertise in designing training programs, facilitating change processes, and applying practical transformation tools. Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II provides support in the management of educational projects and international cooperation, based on many years of experience in Erasmus+ programs.
