Examining the issue of conflict from multiple perspectives, solidarity as a means of overcoming crisis, and the practice of social resistance—these will be the central themes of the discussion at the international conference “SOLIDARITY IS/AS CONFLICT. Reassembling Art, the Political, and Education for a Common World,” which will take place on May 14–15. The conference will be accompanied by artistic events that complement the academic and social discourse with the language of art.

“The conference addresses the connections between science, culture, art, education, and politics in conflict situations and areas, emphasizing the role of solidarity as opposition and a practice of social resistance,” write the event organizers. “The sensibility and language of contemporary art offer a promising perspective in the context of the current multi-crisis, experienced both globally and individually, and the need to foster solidarity as the foundation for overcoming it.”

The conference and accompanying artistic events bring together artists and researchers exploring conflict as the foundation of communal ways of life. At the center of their focus is solidarity, which constitutes a key element of relationships—and simultaneously a practice of opposition and resistance in situations of conflict.

The project is carried out in collaboration with the research network Studies of Conflict, Art, and the Political in Education (SCAPE) in a traditional conference format, featuring both internationally recognized scholars and junior researchers (primarily doctoral students).

The event is open to the public. We warmly invite everyone interested!
