On June 9, 2026, Bechtel, the main contractor for Poland’s first nuclear power plant being built in Pomerania (at the Kopalino-Lubiatowo site), officially opened its new office in Gdańsk. The office is located in the Alchemia complex, near the University of Gdańsk. Ultimately, it will provide jobs for over 200 employees.
The ceremony was opened by Leszek Hołda, president of Bechtel Polska. Among the invited guests were representatives of the central and local governments, the business sector, and the academic community, including Douglas O’Neill, a representative of the U.S. Embassy in Poland; Beata Rutkiewicz, Governor of the Pomeranian Province; Mieczysław Struk, Marshal of the Pomeranian Province; and Wojciech Wrochna, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Energy. Representatives of Polish Nuclear Power Plants and project partners also took part in the event.
Representatives of universities also attended the event. The University of Gdańsk was represented by: Dr. hab. Urszula Patocka-Sigłowy, prof. UG, Vice Rector for Student Affairs at the University of Gdańsk, and Dr. hab. Sylwia Mrozowska, Prof. UG, Rector’s Representative for Cooperation with the Nuclear Sector and Director of the University of Gdańsk Center for Sustainable Development. The university has signed a cooperation agreement with Bechtel, under which it will, among other things, conduct public opinion surveys, support dialogue with the local community, and develop effective and responsible communication.
