Energy Transition Lab programme of the Centre for Sustainable Development
Energy Transition Lab is a programme that helps to understand what the energy transition in the European Union is all about and to identify opportunities for public engagement in building sustainable and resilient places to live.
The aim of the programme is to develop a space for sharing the experience, knowledge, solutions needed to empower local communities in the energy transition and implement bottom-up solutions that are based on local needs.
The programme conducts research, implements projects, shares results, provides analysis, expertise and consultancy to support local communities, local government units and small and medium-sized enterprises in the energy transition process.
The genesis of the programme is research into the challenges of the European Union’s climate and energy policy and the energy transition in Poland, with a particular focus on wind, nuclear and distributed energy.
We adopt a societal perspective, exploring complex transition processes. We focus on areas such as the Science-Technology-Society relationship, social perception of risk, energy democracy, participatory decision-making processes and changing roles of citizens in the energy transition.

We place the social and political aspects of energy at the centre of our deliberations. These include the social perception of risk, attitudes towards the new energy culture, ideas of energy democracy and public expectations of greater empowerment in decision-making processes related to energy systems. We want to invite representatives of the socio-economic environment and institutional partners into our academic space. Our focus is on education, raising awareness and developing recommendations for managing conflicts related to energy investments.
