The seminar ‘Involved in Action’, which took place on 11 June 2025 at the Art Factory in Tczew, inaugurated a series of metropolitan meetings devoted to deinstitutionalisation – i.e. transferring support for elderly people, people with disabilities and migrants from 24-hour care facilities to their natural environment: their homes, families and local communities.

The event was attended by nearly 100 participants – local government officials, experts, representatives of institutions and local practitioners – who worked in three thematic workshop groups, sharing experiences and ideas for intergenerational activities, the development of support networks for people with disabilities and the integration of migrants.

The event was attended by Dr Rafał Raczyński, coordinator of the Migration Observatory programme at the Centre for Sustainable Development at the University of Gdańsk, who gave a presentation entitled ‘Fake news and negative phenomena concerning migrants in Pomerania’.

The meeting was organised by the Gdańsk-Gdynia-Sopot Metropolitan Area (OMGGS), the city of Tczew and the Regional Centre for Social Policy in Gdańsk during the session ‘Local practices and inspirations’ in the thematic group ‘Migrants’.

The next meetings in the series will take place in Wejherowo and Puck. Their aim is not only to engage in theoretical discussion, but also to present good practices and build a network of cooperation between local governments, social organisations and the beneficiaries themselves. Participants unanimously emphasised that deinstitutionalisation is primarily about facilitating access to assistance where those in need live, which promotes their independence and sense of dignity.
