Workshops, competitions and an artistic programme – a many attractions prepared by three universities (Gdansk Medical University, Gdansk University of Technology and Gdansk University) awaited visitors on 26 May on Góra Gradowa. The Centre for Sustainable Development also had its stand.

The organisation of the event is the result of cooperation between the three universities of Gdansk forming the Association of Fahrenheit Universities: the Medical University of Gdansk, Gdansk University of Technology and Gdansk University, as well as the Hevelianum and numerous partners of the event.

From the morning, crowds of visitors representing various age groups filled the Picnic area, eager to enjoy the rich programme prepared by the organisers and to discover the mysteries of science. The opening ceremony of the Picnic took place on the stage at 11 a.m., during which the Gdansk Academic Orchestra performed, the FarU Awards were presented and the ‘Scientists’ exhibition was opened,” reads a report on the Fahrenheit University website.

The event was attended by Aleksandra Dulkiewicz, Mayor of Gdańsk, Prof. Krzysztof Wilde, Rector of the Gdańsk University of Technology, Prof. Anna Jurkowska-Zeidler, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation of the University of Gdańsk, Prof. Michał Markuszewski, Vice-Rector for Science of the Gdańsk Medical University, Prof. Adriana Zaleska-Medynska, Director of the Daniel Fahrenheit Association of Universities in Gdańsk, and Paweł Golak, Director of the Hevelianum. The stage programme was hosted by Aleksandra and Piotr Stanisławski, authors of the popular science blog Crazy Nauka.

There was also great interest in the stands prepared by the event’s partners and the three universities. The Centre for Sustainable Development UG took part in the event for the second time. At the stand it was possible to meet CZRUG employees: Dr Krzysztof Szczepaniak, Director of the Centre, Jolanta Mrozek-Kwiatkowska, Maria Karbowska and Szymon Gronowski, as well as students: Natalia Supinska, Maja Lohse, Adam Terlikowski, Mateusz Stankiewicz and Zuzanna Kijewska.

What did CZRUG prepare? Visitors to our stand could take part in a quiz on sustainable development, with gadgets signed with the UG logo to be won. For the youngest, we prepared ‘hand colouring books’, which were prepared on request by Zuzanna Kijewska, a student at the Academy of Fine Arts. New this year at our stand was a game entitled ‘We are building the green city of the future’. On cardboard bricks, participants could draw their ideas and visions for transforming the city into a greener and more climate-friendly space.
