We would like to invite you to an open lecture by Dr. hab. Maciej M. Sokolowski, Prof. UW, Prof. KU, entitled. “Smart Energy Communities: (Em)Powering the Neighborhood,” which will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at 10:00 am in the Council Hall of the Faculty of Social Sciences at UG. The lecture will be held in English.

Maciej M. Sokołowski, PhD, DSc, is a Specially Appointed Associate Professor at the Faculty of Policy Management at Keio University, also affiliated with the Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Warsaw. Professor Sokołowski has extensive experience in energy law and the energy sector, having authored over 100 papers and reports within the field. His publication record includes three solo monographs on energy regulation, combined heat and power, and the energy transition – notably Energy Transition of the Electricity Sectors in the European Union and Japan: Regulatory Models and Legislative Solutions (Palgrave Macmillan, 2022). Professor Sokołowski is a fellow of several international institutions and networks, including Sustainability College Bruges, the SI Network for Future Global Leaders, the Polish Electricity Association, the Australian Network for Japanese Law, the Japan Association of EU Studies, and the Japan Society of Public Utility Economics. He has been awarded numerous distinctions, including the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship, the Swedish Institute Visby Programme scholarship, and the Research Award of the Prime Minister of Poland. Professor Sokołowski has been repeatedly named among Stanford University’s “World’s Top 2% Scientists”. Furthermore, he serves as a Lead Author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), contributing to the Special Report on Climate Change and Cities and specifically leading Chapter 4: “How to Facilitate and Accelerate Change”.
