The Marie Curie-Skłodowska International Congress ‘Innovation is a Woman. Science – Business – Education’ (pol. Innowacja jest kobietą. Nauka – Biznes – Edukacja). On 21-22 October, the Lublin Conference Centre was visited by several hundred people. The congress is part of the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin.
The event was attended, among others, by the Secretary of State at the Ministry of National Education, Joanna Mucha, PhD, the Rector of the University, Professor Radosław Dobrowolski, the Chairman of the Committee for the Celebration of the 80th Anniversary of the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, Professor Jan Pomorski, as well as representatives of the world of science, education, politics, business and culture, including Sylwia Mokrysz, PhD (Mokate), Irena Eris, PhD, Sylwia Dołęgowska (Żagiel Group) and representatives of the Kulczyk Foundation, as well as: Ewa Korzec (Inter Broker), Radosław Janik (Apis), Wiesław Czarnacki (Fabryka Kabli Elpar) or Piotr Szulec (Skarbiec TFI).
The congress was an opportunity to discuss the role of women in science, business and education, inspired by the figure of the university’s patroness. During the event, a letter of intent was signed concerning the creation of a regional centre for science, education and new technologies – the Maria Curie-Skłodowska Exploratorium.
“In the ‘panel How to educate young people to be European / European?’, Prof. Jan Pomorski, together with prominent panellists, reflected on a number of issues concerning education, transformation processes and identity,” write the organisers in their coverage of the event. Panel guests included Joanna Mucha, PhD (Secretary of State, Ministry of Education), Basil Kerski (Director of the European Solidarity Centre) and Sylwia Mrozowska, PhD, DSc, Professor UG (Director of the Centre for Sustainable Development, University of Gdańsk).
