Discussions centered on topics regarding the importance of nuclear energy for the country’s energy security, as well as the role of women’s expertise and diversity in this rapidly growing sector. Invited experts and speakers shared their professional experiences, discussing career paths, barriers, and opportunities for growth in the nuclear energy industry. The seminar served as a space for knowledge exchange, networking, and strengthening the presence of women in a sector that will play a key role in the future of the Polish economy.

“The seminar became a space for mutual support, exchanging experiences, and networking, demonstrating that the energy transition and the development of the nuclear sector are, above all, an investment in people,” reports the website of the Provincial Labor Office in Gdańsk.

The event was moderated by Anna Błażewicz-Stasiak, Deputy Director of the Pomeranian Regional Planning Office at the Marshal’s Office of the Pomeranian Province.

One of the speakers was Dr. hab. Sylwia Mrozowska, Professor at the University of Gdańsk and Director of the Center for Sustainable Development at the University of Gdańsk, who participated in the seminar’s opening session with an expert presentation titled “The Present and the Future: A Portrait of Women in the Nuclear Energy Sector.” In her speech, the Director of the Center for Sustainable Development discussed the role of nuclear energy in the context of building energy security and emphasized the importance of women’s expertise, experience, and diversity in this rapidly growing sector.

As she emphasized, the nuclear sector needs a strong, competent, and diverse workforce to drive its efficiency and innovation. Dr. Sylwia Mrozowska, Professor at the University of Gdańsk, noted that the presence of women in the energy sector is not only a matter of equality but a practical response to the challenges facing the industry. Technological transformation, the aging of the current workforce, and growing talent shortages mean that the sector needs new personnel, fresh perspectives, and a wide range of competencies. In today’s nuclear energy sector, women are not merely a symbol of change—they are an indispensable part of the teams responsible for safety, quality, and the sector’s long-term development.

The next item on the agenda was a moderated discussion titled “Women’s Career Paths in the Nuclear Industry.” The debate, led by Anna Błażewicz-Stasiak, focused on the realities of work and opportunities for professional development for women in the nuclear energy sector. Specialists representing various areas of the energy sector spoke about their career paths, key competencies, and the challenges they face at work. The discussion featured: Emilia Janisz (Chair of the Board of Women in Nuclear Poland), Ewelina Pomianowska (electrical engineer at the Department of Nuclear Safety, National Atomic Energy Agency), Dorota Chandavoine (Stakeholder Involvement Manager, Polish Nuclear Power Plants), and Agnieszka Świniarska-Chabros (Senior PMO Manager, Amentum)

Dr. Agnieszka Boettcher, a Doctor of Physical Sciences from the National Center for Nuclear Research at the University of Silesia, participated in the inspirational session “My Path to Nuclear Energy.” The expert spoke about her professional journey, pivotal moments, and the role of motivation and mentoring in career development.
