We have just had an inspiring lecture by Dr. Dawid Weisbrodt entitled “Svalbard – Land of Ice and Rubbish” and the opening of a photo exhibition of the same title. The event took place on April 24, 2025, at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Gdańsk.

Although the Arctic seems inaccessible and pristine, it is there that climate change and pollution are progressing the fastest. Dawid Weisbrodt, geographer, ecologist, environmental educator, and coordinator of the Education for Sustainable Development CZRUG program, talked about what the natural environment of Svalbard looks like today and how we can protect it.

The exhibition can be viewed in the rotunda of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Gdańsk on level 100 (the so-called Drum, floor -1) until May 29, 2025.

The photographs were taken during work carried out in Svalbard by the forScience Foundation as part of the ICEBERG project, No. 101135130, funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe program.

The event was organized in cooperation with the Polish Geographical Society, Gdańsk Branch, and GTN.
