The task of education is to transform the interdependence of the global world into conscious solidarity. The knowledge-based economy and the knowledge society are based, inter alia, on: creating knowledge in the form of scientific achievements resulting from research; knowledge transfer through education and training systems; popularizing knowledge by means of modern information and communication technologies; application of knowledge for innovation and technological progress.
The condition for the effective implementation of sustainable development of each country is the active participation in this process of a conscious and well-educated society. Education should be open and accessible to all. It is also important it should be conducted in a continuous manner: from upbringing in a family, through formal education systems (primary, secondary and higher education) and informal education (programs and promotion of appropriate pro-ecological attitudes). The global idea of sustainable development should be included in the system of formal education. Formal education involves developing awareness, understanding sensitivity and abilities, and aims to make people aware of the relationship between humans and nature, and to ensure the durability of these relationships. Such education must be based on the perception of interrelationships in various systems and the ability to combine and balance problems arising in various fields, such as: economy, environment and building an environmentally friendly society, or exercising power.
