Project Description

Irena Chawrilska holds a PhD in literary studies and serves as the Director of the Academic Center of the Polish Language and Culture at the University of Gdańsk. She is an academic tutor and an assistant professor at the Department of Applied Polish Studies of the Institute of Polish Philology. From 2013 to 2018 she was an editor, secretary and member of the editorial board of the journal “Język–Szkoła–Religia” (Language-School-Religion). Moreover, Irena works as an examiner authorized to act in the capacity of the exam committee chair during the Certificate Examinations in Polish as a Foreign Language. In addition to teaching Polish as a foreign language, she also teaches Polish, philosophy, and ethics.

She is a member of the Schulzian Laboratory at the University of Gdańsk and of the “Bristol” Association of Polish and Foreign Teachers of Polish Culture and Polish as a Foreign Language.

Irena has published widely in the area of Polish glottodidactics, interdisciplinary and comparative literature, and esthetics.

Her research interests focus on: 

Literature and art in teaching Polish as a foreign language, migration experience in the process of education, SDG literature and art, the esthetics of intermediality and transmediality,
the phenomenon of hybridity in culture, experimental literature, and the international reception of Bruno Schulz’s works
