Education for sustainable development: Offshore wind power industry

On Saturday, 5 March 2022, the inauguration of the postgraduate studies Education for sustainable development: Offshore wind power industry, organized by the Centre for Sustainable Development of the University of Gdańsk as part of the Education for Sustainable Development Programme. The first session was held in the on-line format via MS Teams platform.

The event began with a speech by Sylwia Mrozowska, PhD, DSc, Prof of the UG, Director of the Centre for Sustainable Development of the University of Gdansk, who thanked Dorota Pyć, PhD, DSc, Prof of the UG, the Director of the Postgraduate Studies – for her commitment and contribution to the content and the students for their interest in the educational offer of the Centre. The next speaker was Maciej Stryjecki, Director of Offshore Wind Energy Departament at Polenergia S.A. Group, which is one of the partners of the postgraduate studies. Afterwards, the introductory speech was given by Dorota Pyć, PhD, DSc, Prof of the UG, who also gave a lecture on the propaedeutics of offshore wind energy.

Postgraduate studies Education for sustainable development: Offshore wind power industry will enable students to expand their knowledge of offshore wind potential management, business risk management, control of energy generation in offshore wind farms, sea spatial planning or offshore wind energy in the energy transformation. Thanks to the Centre’s cooperation with public administration and the socio-economic environment, students have the opportunity to learn about the specifics of offshore wind farm development. Lectures by representatives of the offshore sector are a fixed part of the postgraduate program.

POSTGRADUATE STUDIES

Education for sustainable development: Offshore wind power industry

The University of Gdańsk is launching the first edition of postgraduate studies Education for Sustainable Development: Offshore Wind Power Industry. This is a field with potential, educating staff for one of the fastest growing energy markets in the world.

The studies are addressed to people who have at least a bachelor’s degree and are interested in working in the offshore wind energy sector, as well as all those who want to develop their competences in this area.

The curriculum covers 195 hours. During the classes, students will have an opportunity to learn about such issues as: managing the offshore wind energy industry potential, business risk management, control of energy generation in offshore wind farms, sea spatial planning or offshore wind energy in the energy transformation. Graduates of the studies will receive a certificate confirming the achievement of learning outcomes in the field of knowledge, skills and social competences assigned to the studies.

Postgraduate studies are conducted on an extramural basis and last two semesters – from February 2022 to January 2023.

Recruitment to postgraduate studies Education for Sustainable Development: Offshore Wind Power Industry started in August 2021. Online registration started on 16 August 2021 and will last until 15 January 2022. Registration can be made at this link. Documents (application for admission to postgraduate studies and a copy of the graduation diploma) should be submitted from 01.10.2021 to 31.01.2022 to the Centre for Sustainable Development of the University of Gdańsk, located at the Faculty of Social Sciences in Jana Bażyńskiego 4 (room S457).

40 places have been prepared for candidates. The applications are processed on a first come first serve basis.

The list of initially admitted persons will be announced on 07.02.2022.
