PROJECT OF THE NATIONAL AGENCY FOR ACADEMIC EXCHANGE ENTITLED NARRATIONS ON SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT – THE POLISH PERSPECTIVE

In the third edition of the Programme of the Promotion of the Polish Language of the National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAAE), the Academic Centre of the Polish Language and Polish Culture in cooperation with the Centre for Sustainable Development are carrying out a project entitled Narratives about Sustainable Development – the Polish Perspective. The planned activities, which will be implemented in cooperation with Trinity College at the University of Dublin, include the preparation and running of a series of workshops, participation in a PC Drama, peer tutoring of Trinity College and UG students, issuing of publications and organisation of a conference entitled Polish Culture for Sustainable Development. In cooperation with the Department of Russian & Slavonic Studies at Trinity College in Dublin, the Centre for Sustainable Development designed the implementation of project activities related to the goals of sustainable development. The Academic Centre of the Polish Language and Polish Culture in cooperation with the Gdańsk Theatre Miniatura will prepare a series of workshops on Polish literature about SDG and performative reading of literary texts for students, the Polish community in Dublin and students of Polish secondary schools.

NORWEGIAN PROJECT – YOUNG STAFF FOR THE OFFSHORE WIND POWER INDUSTRY AS PART OF THE EDUCATION PROGRAM MF EOG 2014-2020

From 20.04.2022 to 10.04.2022, the Centre for Sustainable Development will be carrying out educational activities under the project “Young Staff for the Offshore Wind Power Industry”. The project is a response to the challenges indicated in the document “Poland’s Energy Policy until 2040”, including better adjustment of education and training systems to the needs of the offshore wind power industry. The aim of the project is prepare young people to enter the labor market for the newly emerging offshore wind energy sector by developing and updating the educational offer of vocational education and training institutions and training career counselors.

REINFORCE SUSTAINABLE ACTIONS, RESILIENCE, COOPERATION AND HARMONISATION ACROSS AND BY THE SEA- EU ALLIANCE (RESEARCH-EU)

We conduct research and implement innovations together with business

The general goal of the reSEArch-EU project is to develop the SEA-EU alliance in the context of research and innovation, cooperation with the environment, in particular with business. The main tasks carried out by the University of Gdańsk are:

  • Development of a virtual Centre for Technology Development to analyse management practices related to intellectual property rights;
  • Drawing up a training programme as part of the Spin-Off Competence Lab, in order to develop awareness and competences in the field of entrepreneurship among scientists;
  • Creation of a SEA-INNOVATE HUB – a platform integrating the activities of scientists and business in the field of innovation development;
  • Testing the model of (Marine) Science Shop – a unit that connects the university with the environment, mainly the social one, and proposes solutions to local problems.

The Centre for Sustainable Development is involved in performing task 2.5. (Greening research and innovation practices), the aim of which is to estimate carbon footprint of research activities and to undertake mitigation measures, and Mapping and analysis of stakeholder engagement approaches and strategies within the Alliance as well as 4.2. Enhancing transdisciplinary cooperation by pilot projects.

The above tasks are connected with the programmes implemented by the CSDUG: Internship Programme and Green University Programme.

EUROPEAN UNIVERSITY OF THE SEAS

We are strengthening research and teaching cooperation between 6 European and coastal universities

The Centre for Sustainable Development is involved in the work of the European University of the Seas working group for sustainable development, which was established by the SEA-EU Education Subcommittee. The SEA-EU is an alliance of 6 European and coastal universities: University of Gdańsk (Poland), University of Cadiz (Spain), University of Western Brittany (France), Christian-Albrecht University in Kiel (Germany), University of Split (Croatia) and University of Malta in Valletta (Malta).

The aim of the consortium is to create an international, multiethnic, multilingual and interdisciplinary European University that will strengthen research and teaching cooperation, and support innovations and knowledge transfer.

In the first stage of its activity, the working group for sustainable development designed a questionnaire and carried out a study in all universities belonging to the consortium on the awareness of employees and students in the field of sustainable development and the attainment of its goals during classes. Work is currently underway to collate the results.

POMERANIAN ACADEMY OF SOCIAL COMPETENCES (PASCS).

We support young people in entering the labour market

The Centre for Sustainable Development of the University of Gdańsk is cooperating (March 2021-June 2022) with Pomeranian high schools as part of the project entitled “Pomeranian Academy of Social Competences” which is co-financed by the European Union under the Knowledge Education Development Operational Programme, Priority axis: I. Young people on the labour market, Activities: 1.4 Solidarity youth in action. Support for youth initiatives to solve problems of local communities, including the promotion of sustainable development goals.

In this project, groups of 5 secondary school students (12 groups) carry out mini-projects in cooperation with non-governmental organisations to solve local problems. The main theme of the projects is sustainable development. The CSDUG is a co-organiser of the competition for the best presentation of the completed project, which will be held during the conference summarising the second year of CSDUG’s activity at the University of Gdańsk in 2022.
