ROLE OF INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION BETWEEN UNIVERSITIES TO ATTAIN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS (SDGS)
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development includes related goals, such as poverty eradication, economic growth, social inclusion, environmental protection, social justice and peace. International cooperation is an indispensable element in achieving the goals of sustainable development, because the threats of the modern world are global.
Universities play a special role in coordinating the cross-sectoral attainment of the SDGs as they are agendas for innovation, economic and social development at local, national and global levels. Moreover, universities and research institutions provide significant support in building knowledge-based societies.
Undoubtedly, a key role in cooperation between universities is played by projects, both research and implementation ones, carried out together with large international consortia. This allows for the creation of new methodologies, the development of common solutions to economic, political and social problems, and the exchange of good practices.
Cooperating with local and global partners, with the social environment, European universities and research institutes contributes to technical, economic and social changes. The most important mission of the university is to educate future leaders and professionals who will be able to meet global challenges to which the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) respond.
